Revenue Cycle Support

Client Challenge

With their new EMR system "go live" date only a few weeks away, AR days on the rise, and a lengthy list of key projects needing attention, the Client reached out to Experienced Resources in search of additional revenue cycle expertise. The Client was seeking an experienced leader who could work closely with the Business Office Manager to improve day-to-day billing results, alleviate the mounting pressure within the department, and help implement improvements that would position the revenue cycle function for consistent performance going forward.

Core Values Required

Communication; Collaboration; Expertise; Organization; and Leadership

This engagement required a seasoned individual possessing the skills and experience to "hit the ground running"—and produce the immediate results needed. During a six month time period, they would be responsible for leading key projects, assisting in day-to-day Business Office activities, instilling accountability, while working collaboratively with staff and outside vendors. Strong communication skills and a high level of transparency would be required in order to build key stakeholder relationships inside the department and across the organization. Given the sheer number of priorities facing the Revenue Cycle area, this individual would also need the ability to thoughtfully organize and manage a broad scope of work.

Our Solution

Experienced Resources matched the client and their requirements with a seasoned Revenue Cycle leader holding 20+ year's leadership experience. This particular leader brought a proven track record and wealth of knowledge in helping other organizations transition through difficult periods, boosting day-to-day performance, and improving Business Office practices.

Assignment Length: 6 months

The Experienced Resources' leader stepped in and quickly became a trusted, valuable resource for the CFO and Business Office Manager. He worked closely with the twelve Business Office staff to expedite claims processing, improve billing practices, enhance outside vendor execution, and help clarify the staff's roles and responsibilities. In collaboration with the Business Office Manager, staff, and other departments, billing processes and performance improved significantly. Within the first three months of the engagement, the total outstanding AR decreased by over $2 million, as did AR days which dropped from 65 to 42 days. Hospice billing, which was not part of the total AR was also reduced, by $200,000 in just three months' time.
