Regional Hospital
Interim Revenue Cycle Leader

Client Challenge

This regional hospital was in the midst of implementing a new EMR system, with a “go live” date only weeks away. Meanwhile, the Business Office staff was challenged to balance day-to-day responsibilities with the training demands associated with the implementation. The department leaders and staff were remarkably dedicated, yet the potential for burnout was increasing as overtime hours mounted.  To complicate matters, AR days were on the rise and a lengthy list of key projects needed attention.  The hospital needed an outside resource to help improve its revenue cycle processes from beginning to end.  This would help position the organization for more consistent financial performance going forward.

Our Solution

Experienced Resources matched the Client and their requirements with a seasoned Revenue Cycle leader holding 20+ year’s leadership experience in revenue cycle management. This leader’s proven ability to solve operational challenges, decrease accounts receivable, and improve cash flow in both profit and non-profit entities, represented the depth of support needed for this situation.  With extensive experience in revenue cycle measurement and process improvement, this particular leader brought a proven track record and wealth of knowledge in helping organizations transition through difficult periods, boosting day-to-day performance, and improving Business Office practices.

“He [the interim leader] uncovered all of the holes we had in our revenue cycle. Our Business Office Manager is finally feeling relief and appreciated the expertise this leader brought to the table.”

- Hospital CFO

The ER leader “hit the ground running” and quickly became a valuable resource for the CFO and Business Office Manager.  He worked closely with the entire Business Office staff to expedite claims processing, improve billing practices, enhance outside vendor execution, and help clarify the staff’s roles and responsibilities.  In partnership with the Business Office Manager, he collaborated with the staff and other departments to significantly improve the billing processes and department performance.  Within the first three months, the total AR was reduced by over $2 million, as did AR days which dropped from 65 to 42 days.  Hospice billing, which was not part of the total AR, was also reduced by $200,000 in just three months.  “He [the interim leader] created focus, and was able to go much deeper than we initially anticipated”, stated the CFO.   As a result, the department was able to achieve significant and sustainable results in a short period of time.
